I am trying to eliminate any 'deadwood'/possible spyware
from my start up menu.

Question re: System Configuration Utility

Under the 'Start Up' tab there is a start up item
named: '1' with a corresponding command named '1' and a
location listed as:'software\Microsoft\Windows\Current
version\run.'

Any ideas as to what this is? I went ahead & disabled it
at start up & haven't seen a problem as of yet. If you
know what this is, please clue me in.

TIA, Miles

Miles,

"1" sounds like a bizzare entry and therefore, it could be a spyware. BTw
what is the problem being encountered while it is checked in
MSconfig->Startup?

In the mean time, download Ad-Aware from
http://www.webattack.com/get/adaware.shtml
, scan the system and eliminate the malware/spyware products. Re-apply the
above fix if necessary. Don't forget to update the pattern file using
WebUpdate in Ad-Aware. Here are the steps:

1. Start Ad-Aware.
2. Click "Check for Updates", "Connect" and download the latest pattern
file if available. and click Finish
3. Click "Start" "Next" [System will now detect the spyware]
4. After the scan is finished, click "Next"
5. Select all the items (checkboxes)
Right click on any object in the "Scan result" list and choose
[Select all objects]
6. Click Next and click OK to confirm spyware removal.
