The version 4.0 software only works for USB devices, John. Game port
devices need to be plugged in, then Added in Game Controllers. Windows XP
has the software for those controllers within the system. If you have a USB
device, I would be returning the package to the point of purchase and
demanding a CD.

The software comes on a CD, John, and Microsoft holds the distribution
rights. To replace the software that was on the CD you'd need to contact
the Microsoft Order Desk at (800) 360-7561, Monday to Friday between 5:00
A.M. - 7:00 P.M. Pacific time. The Microsoft Order desk provides Microsoft
product replacements, and can
check on the status of product orders.

Again, I suggest you take it to the point of purchase. It should have
included a CD with the proper software.
