I recently upgraded my Office 2000 programs to Office XP Professional.
After loading the SP1 update from the office update site, I started the SP2
update and I was surprised to find that the update was 44meg? When I
accessed the more information link on the same page, it took me to another
page where the update was only 14.7 meg, which I saved to my harddrive and
loaded from there.

Does anyone know why there was such a big difference in the size? I went
back to the Office Update website after loading the 14.7 meg file and it
told me that I only needed a few small updates and said nothing about the
other 30meg.

Should I be concerned that I am missing something in my installation? I did
do a complete install instead of just an update when I installed Office XP.

Any info would be appreciated!

Release date.

The size of the necessary updates depends on the release date of your copy of XP Pro, Whether its OEM or not, whether or not auto update has been active etc.
The message probably indicated that the installation and file size would vary depending on these factors ...but not in so many words. Also an uopdate for XP pro might be 30 megs while an update for Office alone might be only 15 meg etc.

I upgraded an OEM version of Office 2000 Small Business Edition. I just
purchased Office XP Professional in Sept. 2003. When I did the install of
Office SP Pro, I selected the complete install option instead of the upgrade
option. I thought this would be better since my previous version was SBE
and did not have Access installed. Also, auto update was indeed activated
in Windows, Office 2000 and Office XP Pro.

What I do not understand is why there would be a different size when the
link came from the Office Update Screen--I just clicked on more information
and the link was only the 14.7 instead of the 44meg shown??? I tried to
load the 44meg file but my internet connection kept shutting off a few
minutes before the update was downloaded and I would have to start over. I
finally clicked on the more info screen(referred to above) and it took me to
the link to download and save the update to disk, instead of autoinstall
from the Office autoupdate screen. Since this was a smaller file, I figured
that any other additional files would be indicated in the autoupdate screen
after I completed this update. There were a few small updates there when I
ran the autoupdate for Office, but only the ones that had showed up
previously when I was trying to load the 44meg file.

My question is, do I uninstall the 14.7 update and keep trying to load the
44meg file?? I just can't understand the difference since it all came from
the autoupdate screen? I just reloaded this system and I am concerned that
I now have a system that has not been completely updated??

Please advise. Thank you so much for your response!
