Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has come accross this DNS
problem. I am running W2k server with AD intergrated DNS...

Every 1 1/2 -2 hrs users at my location are unable to see
niether of my company's 3 external websites. The problem
comes and goes. During this time, I can't ping or trace
the sites via name but can via ip. I get a host unknown
error. I can access the site via IP but the banners
disappear when I do. An nslookup to the sites is also
successful. Every other site on the web can be accessed by
no problem.

What's weird is that if left alone the problem will
resolve itself. I can fix the problem temparerilly but
either 1) rebooting or 2)enableing/disabling the LAN
adapter. I have also tried rebooting my DNS servers and
flushing DNS on the client. I have even added in an
external DNS ip. No Luck. No changes have been made to any
of my DNS servers.

Would anyone have any thoughts on what is going on or what
I could look for. I'd really appreciate it as this issue
has become very frustrating.

Are the clients and servers only using your local DNS as they should be?
You should never use an external or ISP's DNS in any NIC on any AD domain
member or DC.

Does your internal DNS server have the web site names added to your local
domain zone? (i.e. www, mail, ftp or whatever with the website IPs)
If you do not understand how to create these records post the website names
and I will give you step by step instructions for creating the records.

If not add these records, remove your ISPs DNS from all clients and servers
and run ipconfig /flushdns
