Hi I am using a wireless laptop and am worried that my network admin is
monitoring my computer by some programme called VNC.

How can i block them from accessing my computer ??

Also will i be able to have privacy on internet if i use our office
network?? is there any possibility to wipe out my trace after usage.

Please help guys....

Aloha Sutha,

If he's your network admin and the company owns your laptop then they probably
have the right to access your computer. What does your employment agreement
say?

Same is true about your Internet privacy. If your employment agreement says
that the company has the right to monitor your usage then the way you get
them to not do it is to go find a job someplace else. Sorry.

As always, you may want to check the laws in your area to see which ones
apply.

If you can run taskmanager (right-click the taskbar or pres ctrl-alt-del)
then you should be able to see if there's a winvnc process running. That
doesn't preclude the use of other, more secretive, surveillance methods of
course.

VNC normally produces a 'V' icon in the system tray, however there are ways
of hiding this.

Is it your computer, or your employer's? If the later, you have no
expectation of privacy of any kind, and the network administrator may
well be within his rights (and, more importantly, within his specific
responsibilities) to monitor how you use your employer's property. If
the computer is your persoanl property, no self-respecting network
administrator worthy of the title would allow it to connect to his
network without ensuring that it was safe to do so.

If you don't have administrative privileges to the computer, you
probably can't. Otherwise, simply disable the wireless connection.

None whatsoever, and it's probably a violation of your employment
contract to even make the attempt. Before doing something follish and
finding yourself terminated for cause (and therefore ineligible for
unemployment benefits), consult your employer's human resources
department to review your employer's acceptable use policy.
