Re-installing XP -- Problems!

I installed Linux (fresh), wiping out my XP partition. I hated Linux, so tried to reinstall XP Pro. First, I wiped out all partitions. Using the 6 XP boot disks doesn't work (never has -- it can't find EULA) so I put Win '98 and '98 2nd Ed on, then tried to install XP from my CD. Usually works that way.

But....

Setup won't even initialize. I get errors like "Setup has caused an error in KRNL386.exe" or ".... in SETUP.EXE". So it won't even initialize. Any suggestions?

Boot from the XP CD, partition , format, and do a clean install.

thanks, but i'm unable to boot from the cd for some reason. i have set cd rom as first boot device in bios. ant other suggestions?

Your other problems may be related.
How many CD drives?
Is the Windows XP CD original or a copy?
Try the CD in another computer.

Insert Windows XP CD
Reboot
Immediately start tapping keys about each second.
The message "Press any key to boot to CDROM" is only visible for a few
seconds.

Thanks, I will try that tonight. It's not an original CD but a copy. My original is hosed. I popped it in another machine and was able to get to startup OK.

I'll post here when I try it. Thx again.
