Pretty basic, I know...newby. My WMP stopped saving files. "Save as...", choose destination folder, dialog box scrolls, nothing saved in folder. It was suggested that I reinstall WMP from my OEM disk, but I didn't see any intuitive way to get there. Where is it on the disk and how do I get all the files to reinstall. Should I also uninstall the existing WMP first...but how? Will Windows recognize that a file is missing or corrupted and only reinstall that file? Or, as an alternative, how do I get just WMP to start saving...has a file been corrupted, as it worked fine for a couple of months. Aggravating! Thanks all.

Doug, what files are you trying to save? A lot of sites now stream their
multimedia content and you can't save it.

Can't tell from your description if you've lost the ability to save or have
lost the folder that you normally save to? You can select any folder that
you want and it can be customized as a multimedia folder.

Also, there is a Windows Media Player group in the MS newsgroups where you
should ask these questions at:

Thanks for your replys. To Sharon F. and Unknown: I have posed the question in the Windows Media Player Group, where I was also told my player was out of date. I just installed XP from Win 98 a few months ago and the media player is V. 8.0.0.4490. I did go the the download page and downloaded WMP V. 9, but after a 45 min. download (at 26.4kbs, bad phone line noise that I'm still trying to fix) to the WMP folder, there is nothing there that indicates (via right click "Properties/Version) that WMP 9 is there! In the WMP folder, there are several files; some .dll's, WMP 8.0, and a couple of Zip folders (npdrmv2 and npds) which I extracted into the folder, but no luck finding MVP V 9.
RE: the other questions, I am downloading some video files for my daughter's school project, for which I have a dedicated folder which is on the desktop so she can easily access them, and the video files are not there. A "Find File" search does not find them. I am downloading normal mpeg files, not streaming video, not buffered video, just normal mpegs. But my point is, I could save video files with no problems in the existing WMP V 8.0 until this problem arose. I'm not too sophisticated with Windows (former Mac owner), but I'm not clueless either. I'm just plane baffled and frustrated! This kind of thing is almost enough to make me go back to the Mac! Thanks so much for your kind replys and taking the time to help. I guess I'll try in the WMP group, or save my files to disk and just reload stinking Windows XP!
