Hi,
Can anyone help me. I formatted my 25 gb hard-drive after major problems
with a winxp repair and used my cd to re-install the o.s..It boots ok, loads
the files but hangs when it gets to the start windows screen. I've removed
all the peripherals and have formatted a few times but still no joy.
Should I have a floppy boot disk like someone told me? If so, what files
should be on it?
I don't really know what to do next and am rather frustrated, it's been a
long trying day!
(I've just read in this group that a floppy is a no-no.....what next? Can
someone direct me to a website with info regarding this problem as I've had
no joy yer)

T.I.A.

Hi,
I stick in the WinXP cd and it loads the drivers, gets to the start windows
screen then freezes.
Initially, the system went wrong and it wouldn't read the cd, and as I had
repaired it at least 3 times a day for a week, I thought it was time to
re-format.
I had to use a single emergency boot disk and format c:\ using that.
I have also tried booting with the 6 disks I had downloaded from the web,
but that also freezes in the same place.
I am at a loss for ideas.

Did you boot to safe mode and if so did you have the same problem? If you
were able to boot to safe mode then it may narrow things down. The video
driver may be the problem.

Hi Pavel,
Installed new video driver 3 months ago and everythings been ok since then.
Able to re-install windows early this evening but windows is locking up
again even before I could update any of the drivers.
I'm giving up and getting a new hard-drive and see if that helps.

You still did not say if you booted to Safe Mode! Unlikely that hard drive
would cause such problem. You should try to also use the Debugging mode from
the F8 menu. It will show you name of each device as it loads so you will
have some idea where it stops.
