System crashed and I need to re-install my XP upgrade operating system. I
have lost my Windows 95 orginal CD to start re-installing. I only have my
Windows 98 upgrade and my Windows XP upgrade. Any suggestions? Thank you.

You might not have to install Windows 95 or 98. You might be able to
do a complete install of the XP upgrade because there might be a place
which will request to insert the previous version for upgrade checking.

Windows 95 did not use a Product key, and any copy of the setup disk would
work as a disk that XP will scan and approve as 'qualifying media'. If you
can't borrow one, you can call MS for a replacement disk. Help and Support -

He said he didn't have the disk anymore.

It's possible to perform a clean installation of WinXP using the
Upgrade CD, provided you have the true installation CD for the earlier
OS. Your Win98 Upgrade CD will likely serve for this purpose.

Simply boot from the WinXP Upgrade CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. The Upgrade CD checks to see if a qualifying OS
is installed, and, if it finds none, it asks you to insert the
installation media (CD) of that OS. Unfortunately, an OEM
"Recovery/Restore" CD will not work for this purpose; you must have a
true installation CD, complete with the "\Win98" folder and *.cab
files, or the "\i386" folder of WinNT/2K.
