Re-installing Office 2000 (Access 2000)

I have a problem following SP-3 update to Office 2000.

Following the update trying to create a new database gives
the warning that a repair is needed. Click OK and after
several windows with activity bars, the message "Can't
find system.mdw" appears - it is , of course, present on
both hard disk and CD. I have attempted to re-install and
to remove and install, but the problem persists. I
believe that the windows update may have failed at some
point (I have had messages internal error 2329 and Windows
installer error 1603)and that the remove operation from
control panel imperfectly removes Office 2000.

Any suggestions as I cannot now run Access 2000?

Have you used the WrkgAdm.exe to find out where Access expects the
Systen.mdw file and whether System.mdw file is where Access expects.

You can also use WrkgAdm.exe to point Access to where the System.mdw file
is.

Thankyou for your suggestion, unfortunately when I run WrkgAdm.exe I get an error reporting that the registry database can't be accessed.

In that case your entire Windows installation would appear to be
corrupt, or perhaps you aren't logged on with an account with the
privileges needed to update the registry.

Thank you for replying. I was using the administrators account so it looks as though a failure of some sort during the update has corrupted the registry file. Ho hum - when I have a spare week I'll reload all my software.
