Hullo guys and gals. A funny problem here.

About my second computer. Reasonably new about year and a half.
Intel Pentium, Core 2 CPU 6700 @ 2.66 Ghz; memory 1.0 Gig
Second time purchase of Windows XP Pro, last bought 24.06.06

I just wanted to repair XP Pro by running the setup disk.
It loads all files and then It keeps on coming up with this message:

"The file aibnmevn.sys is missing, try re-install",
or something like that. So I can never re-install. I tried for six
months.
Strangely enough this missing xxxxxxxx.sys shows a different name
every time.
For instance it comes up with this name: the file sf gjnm33av.sys is
missing etc.

Have tried all cleaning programs before re-installing Win Pro.
Checked many forums without the right help.
Yeah, this is a challenge, thanks.

Wanting to reinstall today I got this message: (notice the totally
different file number?)
An error occurred copying file ac4kc0j7.sys to C:\$WIN_NT$.~BT
\ac4kc0j7.sys.
The file is missing. Contact your system administrator.
You may choose to retry the copy, skip the file, or exit Setup.
"If you select Retry, the Setup will try to copy the file again.
"If you Skip File, the file will not be copied. This option is
intended
for advanced users who are familiar with the various XP System files.
"If you select Exit Setup, you will need to run Setup again later to
install Windows XP.

Retry Skip File Exit setup

This option is intended for advanced users who understand the
ramifications of missing system files.
If you skip this file, you may encounter problems later during the
installation process. Are you sure you want to skip the file?

Yes No

After restart and continue the install it comes up with:
The file ac4kc0j7.sys could not be found.
Press any key to continue.
Setup failed. Press any key to restart the computer.
(Which of course doesn't work.)

Thanks for reading. I hope you can solve it, Will.

If you are unwilling to reformat for a clean reinstallation,
run a reliable AV programme before you attempt to reinstal.
You can also use REGEDIT to search for these unrecognized
file names. SYS files with non-obvious filenames hint at malware.

The OP did not say what malfunction prompts you to reinstal
Windows. This may also provide clues.

Thanks Don. Sorry, but I did all what you suggested many times
before.
Some time ago I saw one with exactly the same problem.
Then I reacted but got no reply. Cheers.
