This should get you there. If it doesn't, then it probably assumes the old
setup needs to be completed. Hence, boot with a 9x boot disk, format the
drive and then start over booting with the XP CD follow the instructions
below and format again because the 9x format tool isn't always compatible
with XP and may give you an unrecognized format error. NOTE: if the you get
a warning when trying to format witht the 9x boot disk that there is no
partition or it isn't recognized, then the partition is NTFS, type FDISK and
press enter. When in FDISK, select the "Delete the Non-DOS partition
command." Once finished, create a dos a partion, set it active, reboot,
format and then boot from the XP CD and start setup over again.
I know it sounds involved but on some setups, if there is no partition,
sometimes XP won't even begin setup. Here are the instructions for
formatting with the XP CD:
Boot with the XP CD in the drive. When you see the message on the boot
screen to "Press any key in order to boot from the CD," do so.
After loading drivers and files, you should be taken to a screen with
the following:
To Setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
To Repair a Windows XP Installation using Recovery Console press R.
To Quit setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
In your case, press ENTER.
Agree to the License agreement by pressing F8.
You will then be taken to a screen with two options.
To repair the selected Windows XP installation press R.
To continue installing a fresh copy of Windows XP without repairing,
press ESC.
This will bring you to a partition map where you
can delete, create and format partitions.
Select the drive you wish to format, delete the partition, then create a new
partition, format as desired and continue with XP installation.
