Re: How do I make an animated object enter and then exit in Powerpoin.

It sounds to me as if you just need to change the order of your animations.

If you right-click one of the animations in the task pane and select "show
advanced timeline," you can see what's happening when. I believe that just
dragging your animations to different places in the timeline -- or using the
reorder arrows at the bottom of the task pane -- will probably help you
accomplish what you want.

You probably also need to set those exit animations to "after previous" or
"on mouse click," depending on when/how you want them to exit.

Thanks Guys...

....but still got the problem. I've also read a knowledge base article which
identifies the exact problem I have....

Powerpoint treats the appearance / entrance of discrete objects (mine are
text boxes) as separate mouse clicks even if they are set to appear 'after
previous' and and even if the mouse isn't physically clicked - apparently
this was done so the dim function works properly.

Try it yourself. Create this simple presentation. Create 4 objects (doesn't
matter what) and animate them (doesn't matter which way but I'm using wipe).
Set the first object to "appear on a mouse click" and then the next two to
appear "after previous". Set the fourth object to "appear on a mouse click".
Now set the first 3 objects also to "exit on next mouse click".

Now try the presentation. I'll bet that when you click the mouse the first
object appears then disappears before the 2nd object appears and so on. What
should happen is that all 3 objects appear one by one after you make the
first click and then when you click the mouse a second time the 4th object
appears and the first 3 disappear.

Only workaround I can think of is to dupli/tripli/quarupli - etc. - cate the
slide and switches slides with zero second delay (this then makes the
presentation file size much larger than it needs to be...!!)

Firstly I'm using Powerpoint 2003. I have a slide with a lot of objects on
it. The objects are not grouped physically but I want them to enter/exit in
specific groups. I can make them all enter the way I want them to i.e. I
have say, in the first group, 10 objects and on the first mouse click they
all enter. On the second mouse click I want the first lot to disappear and
the second group of objects to enter, however when I set up the 1st set of
objects to "exit on next mouse click" they enter one by one and disappear
straight away before the next object appears and certainly before I've made
my next click - puzzling?! Is it a bug? Any solution??

Cheers

Don't use the "hide after mouse click" thing. You don't need it in PPT 2003.

I should have also mentioned that instead of using "hide after next mouse
click," you'll want to add an actual exit animation to the objects. The
Disappear exit animation should do the same thing as "hide after next mouse
click," but you won't run into the bug with "hide after next mouse click."
