Re-formatting Problems with XP

Ok, i've spoken to a microsoft technician on this matter, but they seem to be
as stumped as I am...
About a month ago I came to use my computer and it wouldn't boot into
windows (just kept hitting the windows logo screen and then restarting).
After several attempts at getting into safe mode I was successful and managed
to turn off the auto-restart function. I managed to get the stop codes for
the errors I had...

0x0000000A (device driver error)
0x00000024 (handle error, saying that the ntfs.sys file is missing or corrupt)
0x000000DE (which doesn't seem to be on the microsoft website at all???)
0x000000C2 (bad pool handler)
C0000221 (unknown hard error)

these errors are in no particular order, however they all appear at some
stage in the boot CD process, apart from 0x00000024 which appears when I let
my computer boot into windows (or try to at least)...
I have tried literally everything that I can think of, I have removed all of
my optional hardware componenents leaving just the HDD and CD Drive in
place... and I get the 0x00000024 stop error code...
I tried removing my HDD and adding a brand new one, but when I tried
installing windows xp onto this it came up with one of the above stop codes
(it was different everytime I tried, trying several times), I tried repairing
my windows installation and I got an IRQL overload (0x0000000A)... I have
also tried a chkdsk run several times to no avail...

has anyone else ever heard of this before?? or seen it and solved it? i
don't know what it could be, at first I thought it was the HDD but after
replacing it with a new one and getting the same problem I am absolutely
stumped... I don't want to format my HDD with the original installation of XP
(which appears to have become corrupt) because I have important information
which I cannot afford to lose... and I fear that I will receive the exact
same stop codes that I seem to get when I install on the new HDD

In all of this, I don't see where you tested the RAM. That's the first
thing I would have checked. I like Memtest86+ from www.memtest.org.
Obviously, you have to get the program from a working machine. You will
either download the precompiled Windows binary to make a bootable
floppy or the .iso to make a bootable cd. If you want to use the
latter, you'll need to have third-party burning software on the machine
where you download the file - XP's built-in burning capability won't do
the job. In either case, boot with the media you made. The test will
run immediately. Let the test run for an hour or two - unless errors
are seen immediately. If you get any errors, replace the RAM.

Hi there - I'm new to Windows and have been given a Dell Optiplex G1 with a
Intel Pentium 2 processor. It had XP Professional on it and worked fine for 2
weeks then I got an error on starting up saying there was a hard disk error
and it refused to start.
I was given a Maxtor hard drive that came out of a Mac so I guess it's
formatted for that but when I take the other hard drive out and try and put
XP onto it the PC says there is no hard disk found.

Please can anyone let me know how I can format it and install XP onto it.
Thanks

else's thread. This could be consider as "hijacking" the thread. You should
have started your own thread.

I know this sounds like it can't be that simple , but whenever I've had that
problem, I just went into the motherboard's BIOS and changed the setting that
sets the OS from Plug & Play from "No" to "Yes". Every motherboard I've ever
owned, ships with the default setting as "No", which stops Windows from
loading all the drivers and files that it needs. Sounds crazy?, give it a try!
