Hi Anyone who can Help,

I have sent up tcpip on a machine running XP, with a
static address, default gateway of our ADSL router and
ISP's DNS servers. This is exactly the same way I have set
up half a dozen other machines on our network which all
work fine. With this machine I can sucessfully ping the
DNS servers but if I type in www.google.co.uk for
instance, it can't resolve it. Hence I can't get Internet
Explorer to work. Any help greatly appreciated,

Thanks,
Gary Smith

Try to browse google.com or yahoo.com using the ip
address instead of the friendly name. If you still
cannot connect, go to internet options and check the
connection tab, you should be set on never dial a
connection. If that is where it is set then click on lan
settings and see if use proxy server is checked, if it is
then uncheck it (unless you use a proxy) If that looks
fine then go to a run line and type cmd and try to ping
www.yahoo.com, you should get 4 replies if not and it
says unknown host try to ping the ip address of yahoo.
You can get this on another computer by going to the
command line on another computer and typing "tracert
www.yahoo.com" (no quotations) If you can the problem may
lie in the winsocks. Do a google search for this M.S.
article 817571. If this does not work call Microsoft for
futher troubleshooting.

this is DNS issue. posting the result of ipconfig /all may help.
