Hi Bridget,
What about an emergency disk?
They are not as useful in WinXP as they are in a Win9x system. You can
create one by right-clicking the A drive and selecting format - a boot
floppy is one of the options. However, you cannot use this disk to access
the machine by rebooting to it if you use the NTFS file system, as it cannot
read that file system. It can only read FAT/FAT32. The disk is still useful
for things like flashing the BIOS, but otherwise is limited in helping you
work on the system from the back end.
For WindowsXP, the proper method for working on the system without loading
Windows is to use the Recovery Console. This is done by booting the WinXP
CD, or by installing it as a boot option (something I would strongly
recommend for anyone who gets a preinstalled system without any CD's).
