Hmmmm. How are you backing anything up, then? I'd get more disk
space for the server.....If there are too many files and they aren't
business related, get rid of them or leave the non-business data on
the hard drive and tell the user you won't support those files and
that if you need to replace the machine, the stuff is gone....
I don't really see the point of a client/server setup if data is
stored locally - I like to treat workstations as interchangeable
objects - use roaming profiles and don't store anything locally.
To recreate the profile, first move the data elsewhere - like I said,
leaving it in c:\data is the best idea if you ask me. Copy the
favorites folder there too for safekeeping. Also move any files
stored on the desktop to c:\data and leave them there. Log in as
local or domain admin, remove the profile (in control panel |
system) and then log back in as the user. It will create a new
profile. Point My Documents back to c:\data or wherever the data
folder is. Copy the contents of the backed up favorites folder to
the new favorites folder in c:\documents and settings\username.....
i dont store on the server as there are lots of GB of files!!
Do i just delete the folder in the docs and settings folder to
recreate the profile?

message If all you need to keep is her files, it's easy. And if you're
using a server, why not store all the data on the server by
default? I always redirect My Documents to the user's home
directory on the server. If you don't want to do that for some
unfathomable reason <g> create a local data folder on the local
hard drive, and redirect My Documents there, and move all the
files. Make sure you also grab the favorites folder from the
profile directory before you blow it away - and also any files she
may have stored on her desktop.

Hi
Whats the procedure to recreating a user's profile on their local
machine? Nothing is stored on the server as far as i know.
I need to keep all her files, but the settings etc can go.
Why, i hear you ask? Cos the next stage of troubleshooting a
bluetooth places problem is to recreate a user's profile.
Thanks
