I am attempting to get an HP Officejet G95 all-in-one printer set up
on my 100Mbps switched Ethernet network. I originally used a Jetdirect
170X but was told this was only suitable for 10Mbps switched networks;

A 170X works fine on a 10/100 port on a hub or switch. It's 10Mbps, of
course, but that's usually not a major problem on a printer.
I now have a Jetdirect 300X.

The 300X is better, but mostly because the firmware is upgradable.
I have installed and configured HP Web Jetadmin and running on an NT
4.0 server. I can initiate discoveries of all the other known network
printers but the one that I would like to see (the Officejet) never
appears. Self-test works fine.

Self-test should print the current IP address of the 300X. It may be
set up to use DHCP. Either way, you should be able to telnet to that
address and manually set the IP address you'd like.

Thanks for your responses.

A telnet to the advertised address of 192.0.0.192 just times out with an error.

However, on the self-test printout I get a message....

"I/O card not ready: 0E LAN error, loss of carrier"

What can this mean? I've tried numerous cables, switches and ports.

Thanks,

Maccy

Possibly a routing thing. Depending on you operating system, you may
find it easiest to just set your computer to an address on the 192.0.0
subnet, telnet to the JetDirect for settings, and then set the computer
back to whatever it was before.

I've never seen that; maybe an Ethernet auto-detect problem? A simple
test might be to set up only one computer and the JetDirect on a hub or
switch all by themselves.
