Re-appearing folders in Windows XP

Windows XP keeps creating the 'My pictures' , 'My
music' , 'My E-Books' in the 'My Documents' drawer. Also,
the 'Links' folder under my Favorites keeps re-appearing
no matter how many times I delete them. Could someone
please tell me how I disable this, because I delete the
folders at least once a day, and the folders annoy me more
and more. I like keeping everything neat on my computer,
and I only have stuff in my Windows that I truly need.
These folders are not what I need.

To remove the Links folder:

TweakUI/Explorer/Uncheck Show Links on Favorite Menu
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

Manual Edits:

There are two methods that can be used to hide the Links folder, one using
the registry and the other using file attributes. Both methods are detailed
below:

Automated Edit:

Remove Links folder from IE/Favorites (Line 93)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Using the Registry - Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\
Toolbar

Set the String value of "LinksFolderName" to equal a blank string. Open IE
and delete the Links folder from the Favorites menu.

The next time you start Internet Explorer the Links folder will not be
recreated.

Using File Attributes

Using Explorer find the location of your Favorites folder (e.g. C:\Documents
and Settings\User Name\Favorites) within that folder will be a sub-folder
named Links.

Select the Links folder and right-click (or secondary click) and select
Properties, check the Hidden checkbox and click OK.

From now on the Links folder should be hidden from the Favorites list. This
works for any other folder or link on the favorites menu as well.

Note: The Links folder must be manually deleted from the favorites menu.
This tweak stops it being automatically recreated.

Repair/Customize Quick Launch, Taskbar and Notification Area
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm

For the rest, you will best need to learn to live with them. :o)

Are you saying that there is no way to stop the "My"
folders from re-appearing? I can't imagine that an OS can
be allowed to create folders against the users (or
organizations) will.

Can you force them to appear in another location?

Thanks,
-Chris

Cause there is not a way to stop it. Why would windows help you to break itself. I can't believe that users think they know more about a operating system than the operating system. The problem is that you are anally-rentative orientated. Fix that and you'll never have problems with computers.

What will a program do, that expects that it is running on a fully functioning copy of XP, if the folder doesn't exist. If the programmer hasn't anticipated wilful users then it may crash. All my programs only anticipate wilfullness towards my programs only - not the operating system. Therefore my programs may crash as I reley on the standard error handlers for unanticipated errors (which means they crash the program to prevent data loss).

Next you'll be on about how keyboards are faster than using a mouse.

If your in an organisation use Group Policy to redirect folders (this is the prefered option). If a home user use tweakui (as you don't have Domain level policy).

I am a perfectionist, and it is my opinion that it is my
computer and my Windows, as I payed for it with my money.
I know alot of people use those folders, but I don't. That
software programmers might cause errors if the folders
aren't there, I don't think so. And even if they did, I
can live with that, but having those folders re-appearing
all time, I cannot live with. Microsoft designed XP, but
structuring folders my harddrive, I believe I can handle
that myself :-P

I think XP is sometimes too user-friendly, and meant the
most for the everyday user with limited knowledge of
computer. I'd love a version for us "nerds" who want to
customize not just the GUI of the Windows, but more
advanced stuff as well. TweakUI helps, but I don't see why
we aren't allowed as standard to tamper with our Windows
more. Maybe an "advanced installation option" for those of
us who want to fiddle around with the Windows and learn
more about it.

But still, you answered my questions, thank you very much.
