Hi, I’m trying to set up a home network where I can Remote Desktop to one of
the computers. There are three computers, two desktops, and one laptop that I
use at work. I keep getting the following error when trying to attempt a
Remote Desktop connection from my laptop to one of the desktops.
The error:
“The specified remote computer can not be found. Verify that you have typed
the correct computer name or IP address, and then try connecting again.â€
I have all the computers connected to a LinkSys WRT54G set in Gateway mode.
The computers are running Windows XP Professional.
The laptop is configured on my work domain: “WORKâ€
The two desktops are configured as part of a Workgroup named: “WORKâ€.
I can access the desktop I want to Remote Desktop to under:
My Network Places>Entire Network>Microsoft Windows Network>WORK>Desktop1>C
I even have drive C of Desktop1 mapped on my laptop.
I have tried to set up a Remote Desktop connection with both the computer
name (desktop1) as well as the IP address that the LinkSys WRT54G gave the
desktop. I also configured the LinkSys for a Port Forward 3389, TCP, to the
IP address Desktop1 is using.
For some reason, other accessing the shared folders, Windows XP on the
laptop is not seeing the other computer.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks
