RDC and Home Pc

HI all,
I hope I am in the right place. I have a desktop that has the RDC up
and basically running. I say basically because I can access it from
work, but only if I put the work IP into my firewall (Zone Alarm). If
the IP isn't there, I can not get into the home system. I am running
XP Pro at home and WIN 98 at work. I am running DSL and I have a
Linksys Wkireless-B Broadband Router and the ports, 3389 and 80 are
forwarded to my PC. How do I fix this problem where I can access the
home pc from anywhere without having to load the IP that I am at?

Second, I also have a notebook at home and it is also connected to the
home network by way of the router. How do I use the RDC to see the
laptop and vice a versu. I keep getting the error that there is no
terminal server on the net.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That may be the way ZoneAlarm works, ie. their trusted zones... Its been a long time since I use ZA
(the free version) however, so I could be wrong about that. If your home PC, ie. the one your trying
to access from work, is behind a Linksys router, then why even bother with ZA on the desktop PC?
IMHO, the NAT functionality is protection enough from the public internet. Presuming your router is
setup to forward the required ports, which you say it is, then everything should work.

As far as the laptop is concerned are you calling the desktop using its LAN IP? If your trying to
use the Remote Desktop browse feature, keep in mind that without a registry hack, that will not work
in a work group environment. To do that, look at this KB article...reboot the desktop after making
the change...

READ THESE TWO KB ARTICLE FIRST!!!!!!

Also, the laptop must be running XP Pro in order for you to access/control it using Remote Desktop.
Is that the case?

Al,
Thanks for getting back to me so fast. I will have to go re-read the
manual on the router, especially since I am not that knowledgeable
with the NAT. I was able to log into the desktop from the laptop
using the RDC, I am still working on trying to go from the PC to the
laptop. I think it maybe cause I forgot to set a password for the
laptop?
I will let you know how I make out.

Thanks again.
