RC2 much better than RC1 for me

I was happy with Beta 2, despite its known shortcomings, but RC1, despite
repeated clean installs, turned my PC into a train wreck. I couldn't install
Adobe CS2 (the Installer just wouldn't co-operate), little luck with AC'97
drivers, none with Canon LiDE80 scanner drivers, Media Centre was a no-go
zone, Windows Explorer was very flakey and would take about 15 secs to open
a folder, IE7 would shut down unexpectedly and restart, boot time was a
shocker, I was losing the will to live...

....basically it was unusable.

All of those problems (and a few more) have been completely resolved with
RC2. And I'm a happy camper. For the first time (o joy, o rapture!) it
recognized my onboard AC'97 sound and installed the correct drivers (from
Automatic Update) along with, surprisingly, one of the four drivers for the
Leadtek DVT1000 digital TV card (the other three I installed manually). It
didn't pick up the scanner drivers, but graciously accepted the old ones I
offered it from my D: partition. Recognized and installed the Canon IP5200
printer. Adobe CS2 intalled without a hitch, although there still seem to be
problems with Adobe's Updater, but that was the case with XP too, so I blame
Adobe there. Photoshop runs without Aero Glass. No problems with InDesign.
Illustrator's palettes have a rather inconsistent way of dealing with the
Vista 'skin', but the application is working flawlessly.

Media Centre is working, it scanned for and picked up all our local digital
TV stations. And, Explorer opens up folders in nano seconds now!

For me, so far, touch wood, it's ready for Prime Time.
 
Glad RC2 is an improvement, Wayne. Having to rely on disks, I cannot
understand why MS allowed RC1 5600 to be sent to all the CPP folks in the
condition that it is in. The networking is a mess, all the browser programs
do not work reliably, mail programs don't work primarily because of the
networking problems, and it is slow in general. Beta2 was far superior even
with its inherent problems.

I have been generally happy with Vista's progress, but now have a very bad
taste in my mouth for 5600. Am going back to beta 2 as there probably will
not be any more disks until RTM, and then we will not be able to secure one.
Bah humbug.
 
I didn't have any major problems with RC1 & I skipped 5728. RC2 installed as
an upgrade from RC1 & it was flawless (both x32 & x64).

Adobe Reader is working. Windows Mail, Google Earth, Excel Viewer, Picassa
2. IE7 works with all my web sites inluding the Flash enabled ones.

No driver yet for PhotoSmart 3210 All-In-One, or the LifeCAM. I think these
will arrive in November at the latest.

System is stable & enjoyable. All hardware discovered except LifeCAM.


Live Taskbar Thumbnails, Windows Flip and Windows Flip 3D, & Document
Explorer aren't working fully yet.

Have to still open a document in Document Explorer to see the content.

I'm sticking with 5728. I found RC2 a major PITA. Networking was broken. I
could browse the network but file sharing caused me to lose both local and
internet connectivity. To restore functionality required re-boots.

Seemed to me like it was pushed out the door a little to quickly. Really
first bad experience I've had with all the CPP betas thus far. Too bad it's
the one being touted as the last one before RTM.

Report the issues via the Feedback icon on your desktop. That is what the
release is for. Bugswatting.
