Hey Guys,
I have a Toshiba laptop with 40GB disc space.
After a clean install of RC2 I now have 16GB free space.
Is that normal?
It needs that much space?
Thanks

No that is not normal. Installations of RC2 (even upgrades) here are
typically around the 10GB mark at the most.

No, thats not right, Vista RC2 only uses 9.5 to 10.1 GBs based on my
experiences. Its possible that Vista is reporting the wrong information.
Open Command Prompt from under Accessories type DIR > hit Enter

How much free space does it say there? Have you also tried doing a disk
clean up?

That sounds like an awful lot. My typical Vista installs during the beta
usually take about 12-15 GB of drive space.

Are you sure you partitioned the entire drive for Vista? Did you format the
partition or is Vista there but all previous viles on the drive survived the
install?

You may have a Windows.old folder (C:\Windows.old), which you can delete,
which would probably double your free space.

The laptop will have a partitioned off area by the factory for system
recovery. This must be deleted from the total size of the drive. The space
remaining is for use of the operating system, the programs you install and
the files you create. I would think what you have is "about" correct.

Clean out your temp folders and empty the recycle bins to reclaim what else
you can.

Yeah maybe is the windows old file. It's about 11GB!
Can I delete it safely?
Are there any files in it that I shouldn't remove?
Thanks.

You can safely delete the folder Windows.old directly, or by running Disk
Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe). It's simply all the files from your previous
installation of Vista, and they aren't used or needed by your current
installation.

Thank you guys!
