I had installed Vista in a dual-boot configuration many times but was
anxious to see how a real upgrade would go with RC2 5744 from XP Home. For
the most part, it went very well (takes quite a while when you're used to
clean install dual-boot testing).
One glitch, however, is that I didn't uninstall WOC 1.0 (have a
subscription) prior to this upgrade. Vista didn't advise this to be a 'red
x' type of problem, I figured I'd remove 1.0 after the upgrade and install
the beta.
Oops. Attempts to remove 1.0 result in "unknown error" in uninstall 0x2,
and that's that. WOC announces that it is quitting shortly after boot, and
Security Center reports the Vista firewall is working, and it is, I did some
testing.
Am I doomed to nuking this massive Vista install and starting from scratch?
I'm lazy and would like to get the retail version and install on top of 5744
but since MS is saying this might not be possible, perhaps I should stop
right now and get back to a fresh install of XP.
Thanks for any help - Bill from KC
