RC1 VPN that works with XP won't connect

Hi, I'm new to Vista, just downloaded RC1 over the weekend.

I'm getting things set up, and one of those 'things' is a VPN to my work.
With my XP laptop, I have no problem connecting (this is a personal laptop,
not a "work" laptop). I set up a VPN connection in Vista with the same
settings, and it fails to connect. it doesn't give an error code, it does ask
about diagnosing the problem, but finds nothing.

Is there some kind of compatibility issue with Vista? I read some comments
about protocol 1.0 or 2.0, but can't figure out where I'm suppose to look for
that. I need this VPN so I can access my work email server with outlook, as
they only allow access from onnet.

Can someone stear me in the right direction? I'd really like to get this to
work :)

I am having the exact same problem. I setup the VPN in RC1 with the exact
same settings that worked in XP and still no luck.

I continually get a Login error. It fails to recognize my
UserNamer/Password (which are correct) but gives me no Error Code. When I
select Diagnose the Problem, it says that a problem can not be found.

Any suggestions? I guessed something with the Firewall, but I have already
gone through and opened up almost everything in the Firewall Allow settings
and still no luck.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

Maybe a clue, maybe not: check the literature on how Vista VPN is
implemented. Are they using the same encryption algorithms as XP? If your
packet encryption has changed, then the VPN host will fail to recognize the
session authentication.

unfortunately, I don't know anything about the ways VPN does things, so I'd
probably be clueless even if i found what you are talking about. I guess
there are some changes to how Vista does VPN's and it's not going to work,
which sticks cause I won't be able to use it during the day when I'm working
from home :(

I GOT IT TO WORK!

I was just about to give up as I had tinkered with just about every setting
from the VPN properties to the Windows Firewall.

As my last attempt (and to clean up all the settings I had adjusted) I
opened the firewall options and click Restore Default Settings. Immediately
after all the settings had been reset, I tried to connect to my VPN and it
worked! Everything connected and it has been working fine since.

I don't know if this can fix your problem, but I would say it is worth a shot.

Good luck.
