RC1 still displays 5384?

Does RC1 still display the cornor marking as Beta 2, Evaluation copy, Build
5384, or did I really just install the wrong version of vista?

I believe RC1 is build 5600 and that's what it says on the desktop. The good
news is that you can do an upgrade install.
 
You installed the wrong version. RC1 displays:

Windows Vista (TM) RC 1
Evaluation copy. Build 5600
