RC1 from MS won't install- keeps rebooting

I've had an issue with the last couple of builds of Vista where they refuse
to install. At first I thought these were just bad burns so I threw the
coasters away and ordered the RC1 dvd direct from MS. But the RC1 dvd does
the same thing.

Here's the scenario:
I use Maxtor Maxblast to format the HDD. I cannot format with FDISK as it
only sees 50gb out of 120gb of my HDD. So I use Maxblast and format as NTFS.

I reboot with the DVD in the drive. I get the message "press any key to boot
from DVD" so I do. The computer immediately reboots. I get back to "press any
key" and if I press the key, the same thing happens. Any theories? Could it
be the Maxtor formatting procedure that's messing it up?

Don't press any key when it reboots. You are forcing it back into the DVD
instead of allowing it to continue from the HDD

Yes, it might be and probably the Maxblast formatting. Try deleting the
partition and recreating it and don't even make it active. Just install
normally on that partition and Vista will take care of it.

Can you boot from a Windows XP CD?
Can you boot from the DVD without any hard disks connected to the
motherboard?
