rc1 did not dual boot but installed over xp please help asap

/i downloaded rc1 was running xp and have TONS of important things and files,
upon install i was told i can use advanced option and it would do a dual boot
where all my stuff would stay on xp and have a seperate boot for rc1 to play
around....mkae a long story short it installed vista and xp is no longer even
on my system as far as i know but i have a file in C drive called windows.old
and it has most of the stuff as far as i can see...since this is a RC version
im sure there has to be a way i can just get back to what i had before since
its backed up i have tons of school stuff and music n personal files...can
someoen please help me i dont mind if you even call me i really need to get
back to xp and have ALL my stuff there ASAP 407-234-3646 my name is Bobby

It seems as though you did not have a seperate partition or drive available
for Vista when you installed it. That is a MUST if you want a dual boot
system. All your old stuff will be in the .old files so you won't have lost
any. I think that if you put the Vista DVD back in there is an option to
'rollback'. I'm not dead certain 'cos i haven't needed to do it.
Assuming you do get back to XP OK but still want to try Vista you will need
to either have a second drive, or a different partition (from XP) for Vista.
That partition should have 20GB free space.When you start the installation
process it will ask you if you want to 'Upgrade' or do a 'Clean Install'.
Ugrade means replacing the existing system (XP in your case). You must go for
a Clean Install. When that is finished you will have a choice on booting
between 'Vista' and 'Legendary or Previous' which would be XP. Colin
