Hi,

As most notebooks have now-a-days I have 2 HDDs in my personal notepad, I
did install beta 2 to see what its like and though aero didn't work on the
laptop I tried it was ok, but slow - hence I stuck with XP lol. However, has
anyone installed RC1 on their notebook and noticed its pretty good and
wouldn't be a chore using it instead of XP?

cheers,

If Notebook or Desktop :

Rc1 runs MUCH faster and is far more stable than Beta2.
Install is only 25-30 minutes.Post-config is about 5 minutes, then you are
ready to use it.
RC1 has a lot of new drivers included, everything is working here right out
of the Box.

Nvidia and Ati are offering new Drivers for RC1, so playing Games with good
speed is also working, if you have such a graphics-card.

I will definetely buy Vista when in shops.

I just installed it today on my Acer Aspire 3610.
It is faster and I would be happy to use it now over XP. I still have an
audio driver issue which has not been resolved but the drivers work so its
not a huge problem. Also I still cannot get into DVD Maker as it errors to
say my videocard does not meet minimum requirements although I am sure it
does. Again I think this is probably a driver issue.
Beta 2 and Pre-RC1 worked fine but were a wee bit sluggish at times
especially with say 3-4 programs open. This RC1 does seem better. The
installation only took 25 minutes compared to 45 minutes of previous betas.

I don't have two HDD, so have an 80Gb drive partitioned. XP has 30Gb and
Vista has 45Gb. So far am happy with it. However I am not sure I want to
get used to it as come next year I will not be able to afford the high price
MS want for it.

Anybody have onboard card readers?

Beta 2 did not recognize mine. Will RC1?

Finally got done d/l'ing 64bit rc1, can't wait to get home and install it.

I don't have an internal card but my external card reader has been detected
okay.

Seems like everyone is happy so far with RC1, I'm considering upgrading my
work notebook from XP to RC1. I remember Windows 2000 RC1 was totally
stable. Other than Andre's article on upgrading from XP to VistaRc1, no one
else has said much it.

Well it seems stable to me although I have been using this version only for
a few hours.
What you could do is partition the notebook and install Vista on D drive
rather than overwriting your XP. That way XP should be left intact

By onboard card reader, you mean one of those digital camera memory card
reader thingys? I have one of those card readers and it worked fine in beta
2, but I haven't tried it yet in RC1.

RC1 is surprisingly fast on my computer. I wasn't expected it to speed up
that much. I've been using RC1 for the last week on my Dell Inspiron 6000.
Looks great.

Yea, that's what I meant.

Don't the official term but memory card reader thingy works for me.

MS advises on the CPP RC1 webpage to NOT install on a production or primary
home computer but to wait for the release of Vista (scheduled for January).

I'm running it on 2 laptops; no problem. The one I'm working on right now
only has 512MB RAM and 64MB video RAM and although I haven't tried to push
the envelope on loading up multipe apps, OS performance is quite
respectable.
