RAW Image Viewer bug report

Six issues with the XP RAW Viewer:

1 It doesn't remember window state: It never opens maximized.

2 Deleting files: corresponding THM-files are not deleted (it is obvious
that they are left there if RAW viewer doesn't know about them). THM files
are created by Canon cameras and they contain full EXIF information.

3 only part of the EXIF data is displayed, it seems that the THM-files are
totally ignored.

4 Sometimes files are not closed when the RAW Viewer quits, preventing
deletion or moving of a file ("file in use by another application"). Maybe a
bug with file caching?

5 "Are you sure you want to delete?" defaults to "no" causing one extra
keystroke. Suggestion: the last used answer should be default.

6 It only shows unedited RAW-data.

I know this utility is a "powertoy" and "unsupported" but I hope these are
going to be fixed asap.

best regards and thanks for a neat new utility,

Miika

Thanks for your feedback...I took
the liberty to forward it to someone
at Microsoft for you.

Miika,

Thanks very much for your feedback. I have forwarded your list of issues to
the development folks on my team at Microsoft to see what might be possible
in addressing these items.

I can tell you that item #4 was an issue discovered over the weekend, and
has been fixed in an updated build. If you go back to
www.microsoft.com/prophoto/ and follow the link to download the powertoy
you'll get the new version. I'd recommend uninstalling the old and installing
the new build, and this should resolve the problem you're having.

Also, on #5, the powertoy respects the "Display delete confirmation dialog"
in the Recycle Bin properties, which you can access by right-clicking on the
Recycle Bin and selecting Properties.

Thanks very much for your feedback!

Hi Miika,

I am the program manager for the Pro Imaging Powertoys at Microsoft and
wanted to thank you for your comments.

I can add some additional detail to Tim Grey's response regarding the file
locking issue.

We posted a refresh build of the Powertoy on Microsoft.com yesterday in part
to address this; however, the only change we made was to disable TIFF
thumbnailing by default. You can do the same thing on your version by
clicking on the Options button in the Viewer and clearing the TIFF
thumbnailing checkbox--you do not need to reinstall the software.

If you did reinstall the software per Tim's suggestion, please check this
setting to verify that it is turned off.

Since Windows already provides default thumbnailing for TIFF files
(including Canon RAW images) this doesn't substantially reduce functionality
of the software. We will have a more comprehensive fix in a future update.

Best,

I'll add another problem:

The exposure data is incorrect. It gives me 202 instead of 200, and other
such approximations. Reminds me a little of the first Pentium!

I'm using Canon EOS Digital Rebel CRW and Canon EOS 20D CR2.

Thank's for the replies!

One comment:

Actually I have had TIFF disabled from the very beginning. I unchecked it
already at the installation stage.

In any case, I'm looking forward to see the next major release.
