Has anyone noticed the new feature on Google Groups that allows you to
rate a message from 1 (poor) to 5 (excellent). It even works on Usenet
messages through Google Groups. Obviously a proprietary feature only
available if you access Usenet through GG, not if you're accessing it
directly.

Oh, goodie! A popularity contest coming to the Usenet near you. Who's
going to be voted Miss Congeniality of .chips?

And I hope for World Peace! ^^

Not sleeping. Been explaining to some folk about how to mistreat
rubber vibration-isolating fan mounts. Yes, mistreat.

Ah, you're going on in an S&M group somewhere. I guess you aren't a Miss
Congeniality candidate, after all! ;-)

Oo-h-h, ya mean kinda like Microsoft MVPs? I can't wait... to see who is
Google MVP of the month.;-)

How come they never say they hope for a World War?

Well, there's this bunch of people who believe the only way to get
World Peace is by eliminating human beings... =X

While I generally agree with Keith's POV on the matter, I could see it
being pretty useful in some NGs. This one has very little spam and
very few cranks. There are some NGs which could use a system to
distinguish between posts from people who contribute and crazies who
just pollute the group. If you want to see a good example of one, look
at JSH from sci.math:

Moderation is obviously not possible on non-moderated NGs, but perhaps
this is a step in the right direction.

I've noticed the same sort of thing in the sci.physics newsgroups.

That's a shame. One thing I like about comp.arch and this NG is that
no matter how different opinions are very few people are truly cranks.
