When I access my Winnt 4.0 server through RAS, I am not able to access my
W2K server. I have an accounting package I'd like to run from it. What do
I need to do to access my W2K server after I login to my Winnt 4.0 server?

Thanks,

John

I am not familiar with NT4.0 ras, but make sure that it has routing enabled so that
remote computers can access the internal network. Test connectivity by pinging by ip
address after you make adjustments. You need to establish basic connectivity before
other issues such as user permissions/rights/security options --- Steve

Did you enable RAS to allow the remote client to access the whole network,
instead of just the server?
What kind of an accounting package are you talking about? Are you using VPN
or dialup?

Steve,

When I check the 'Routing and RAS Admin', I can see that I am connected.
However, when I try to start the router, it won't start and the log in the
System Log says "An instance of the service is already running".

Under 'Services', the 'Routing and Remote Access Service' is not listed as
running. I'm not sure if this service is running.

Thanks,

John

Marina,

How would you enable RAS to allow remote clients to access the network? I
don't see this option in NT 4.0 or on my W2K Pro PC. We are using Great
Plains and it is on the W2K server. I am using RAS dialup.

Thanks,

John

Hi John,

You allow it on the server, network configuration, RAS-configuration.
Keep in mind that on a dialup you can't do much. I don't know Great Plains,
but if that program is using a lot of files, you won't be able to run it
remotely.
