Randown PC lockups using my USB scanner

Please can someone help?

I have an Epson 3170 photo scanner and I am experiencing very frustrating
random lockups during the scanning procedure. Sometimes I can scam 10-20
photos with no problems, an then other times the computer locks up after
only one scan.

I am using Windows XP with 512 MEG of ram. The Epson scanner software
version is 1.22e.

I had problems with my Epson 3200 and 4870 before I installed USB 2.0
card and the latest drivers for the card. Windows XP has a patch for
the problems with USB, you might try to update your Windows with the
update in Windows.
