random web-sites won't open

For some reason, certain sites I go to (which are
accessible from my work computer) will not open on my
home computer. I get the message that "Internet Explorer
cannot open http:...." followed by "Operation Aborted".

Not the most helpful diagnostic message. Can someone
tell me how to stop this? Many normal sites are being
blocked.

This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware, parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
