Basicly at random times, the computer will randomly crash
the shell, and restart. THe onyl support I get from MS
is:

Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 1002
Source: Winlogon
Version: 5.0
Component: Application Event Log
Symbolic Name: EVENT_SHELL_RESTARTED
Message: The shell stopped unexpectedly and %1 was
restarted.

Nothing else in the Event Logs. This has been happening
for the past few weeks.

Sorry, but that is not it. The shell(explorer.exe) will
terminate, then restart the program. The computer
remains running, and the OS never crashes. Half the task-
bar programs are missing, and all my explorer windows are
missing.

This may come from an application running in the background.
Applications that start with Windows can be found here:
- the WIN.INI, section [windows], entries "run=" and "load="
- the Registry keys
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
- the folders
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\{username}\START MENU\PROGRAMS\STARTUP
