Amy

Every 2 weeks or so, my puter will just reboot. I go into
event viewer and this is an error that comes up a lot:

AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO
port address (0xcf8), which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcff
protected address range. This could lead to system
instability. Please contact your system vendor for
technical assistance.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I click on the link and it basically says i need to
update my bios? well, i'm not that much of a computer
user to do that. If this is correct info to solve my
problem, can anyone give me links/idiot guides to find
out what bios i have and how to update it?

Also, I was running Win98SE and got the same rebooting
issues. I fdisked and installed XP and it's happening
again. Some people i talked to said it could be device
drivers causing the prob. but I have the most current
drivers for my mouse/keyboard/video/sound from the
manaufacturers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello

If you are able to get the latest divers and install OS you are more than
savy enough to update yor Bios. Go to http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php and
download and install AIDA 32; it's a great application that is free for home
use. It will give you losts of useful information about your hardware and
software including your mother board and BIOS.

Then go to the website of either your vendor, if you purchased from somone
like Dell or HP, etc. (If you know the PC manufacturer go to their web site
if bought second hand or is gift) or the motherboard manufacturer like Intel
or Asus, etc. and look for the latest BIOS downloads and info. Be Careful
hear: Read info on BIOs and download instructions on how to update BIOS and
download BIOS software update. Print and READ instructions through a couple
of times and follow them setep-by step. Do the BIOs update at one siting.
Once you are all set to do it, it will only take a few minutes.

good luck

Richard
