There's nothing at all unusual in having AVG (antivirus), Windows Defender,
and the control panel for your Synaptic touchpad running at startup. You
should not have to disable any of them.
However, it sounds as though there is something conflicting at startup time
on your system. You don't have (or didn't have) other antivirus or
anti-spyware software running on the system? You haven't gone through some
"tweaking" guide somewhere and turned off services or changed default
security or performance settings in the OS?
It is likely that you are going to have to figure this out for yourself. You
said there were 7-8 programs that don't respond. Are these, in fact, programs
that start when Vista starts, or are they just programs that fail to work
properly when you start them manually?
Some suggestions that might help:
1. Be sure your BIOS and drivers are at the latest stable and certified
levels. Driver issues can make software and the operating system fail.
2. Look in the Event Viewer's Applications and System logs. Do you get any
additional information about possible causes of the problem?
3. You could try removing all of the programs with which you are having
difficulties. Reboot and test the system afterward. Does everything respond
now?
4. Add the programs back one-at-a-time, rebooting and testing after each
program is added. If things start malfunctioning immediately after you add a
program, then that program is a POSSIBLE culprit. (It is also possible that
something added previously is conflicting with this program, and it may NOT
be the cause of the issue you're seeing. But at least you have a better idea
of which software is involved in the conflict.)
It is likely that this situation may be quite difficult to clear up. You may
not get an answer until you've tried the above process and changed the
installation order. Fortunately, it isn't an intermittent problem. You say it
happens every time you start the system. So you should know right away when
you have a solution.
I'm sorry to say that I don't know of a way to make it easier for you, other
than to say that you should look at all of your software to be sure you have
the latest and (one hopes) the most Vista-compatible version of it for your
system. The software you listed is pretty well-known and should NOT be the
cause of your problem. If you have any dodgy software installed, that's the
first stuff that should be blown away.
