I doubt that this issue is hardware related, but I'm running out of ideas...
OS: Windows XP Pro SP1a
Processor: 2.6Ghz P4
Memory: 512meg DDR533
What it is that is happening is random stalls in applications, or they run
VERY slow. Other apps seem to work fine during this time.
Example:
- Trying to open AdAware, stored completely on my C: drive, shows the
startup banner for 10 minutes. Eventually it does load and then works fine.
- Opening My Computer, then the D: drive works normally BUT going
Start->Run->D: will stall explorer for several minutes. Apps that are open
work normally.
- I can open Outlook Express, read messages and new postings, download new
messages, etc... BUT If I try to reset the list of groups OE will download
some (usually 27, but I've seen it go to 2200) and then stall.
I've checked TaskManager and ProcessViewer and nothing wierd is happening. I
boosted and dropped the priority of every process I could find but it made
no difference. Full local virus scan as well as with Trends housecall. Also
full scan with AdAware turned up nothing at all...
What could be happening here?
The ONLY thing that I've done recently was to join a Windows Domain a couple
days ago and I've since unjoined and am back to my normal Workgroup setup.
ANY IDEAS?
