I have a parallel port HP OfficeJet R80 that was working fine in
Windows 2000. Then I upgraded to XP (yes, I deleted the old
drivers). Now, every 24 hours or so, the printer seems to
disconnect. It looks like it is online, but the jobs remain in the
queue with an "error" status. I have to reboot the computer to get
them to print.
This is a Dell desktop and I disabled all power management. Interestingly,
if I go into the Ports tab of Printer Properties, the
HP drivers set up their own port: DOT4_002. They do not use LPT1. In
fact, if I change the port to LPT1, the print jobs disappear into
the bit-bucket.
It is getting very annoying and I am ready to reinstall Windows 2000.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Again: I did remove
the old drivers and made sure the latest XP drivers are installed.

Thanks.

I'll tell you in a month. I don't assist post-daters except to inform them
their clock/calendar/zone is/are wrong. Post dating is incredibly rude as
it's the Usenet equivalent of jumping the queue.

I'd say go into msconfig and disable all start up programs. Then try the printer again. If not, I'd say try to reinstall windows and then install all service packs then install the printer from cd. Also use a USB cable if its available. Though not likely but possible you may have bad serial connection.
