Without provocation my keyboard began displaying numbers that I did not key in. Number pad is good, but actual "typewriter keys" went beserk. When I depress the three key here's what I get=83
depressing 4=54
depressing 5=54
depressing 6=76

So, if I keyed thru the 1-9 here's what I'd see on the screen:
1,2,83,54,54,76,76,83,9,

I will admit to being the most computer illiterate on the internet. I'll admit to loving those "bulky computer manuals"; I'll admit to kicking my tower and the fact that the tower has a "G" on it somewhere. I'll most readily admit to needing your help! When I entered "keyboard+malfunction" I was directed to this site among many others, but, who could be better than PC Review? HELP!

That is very odd! Does this happen all the time, and will all of the keys on the left or only the row of numbers?

This occurs alway (since today, middle of word document) and is only the number keys above the "QWERTY" keys.

Try another keyboard ... always handy to have a spare.

;)

Sounds like it could be damage to the membrane underneath the keys caused by something like a staple or the like.:(

By the time you tired to take it apart and fixed whatever is causing the problem, you can probably buy a new keyboard! And as Mucks said, always handy to have a spare just in case!:thumb:

Old Aggressive Pompous ... or some would say, Old Age Pensioner.

Most members here agree with the first one. ;)

Basically, even if I could fix the problem, it would not be cost effective?
I couldn't say for sure, but if you can get your hands on another keyboard just to isolate the fault, at least you wouldn't be wasting your money only to find the actual keyboard wasn't at fault in the first place (if you follow my drift!)

If you don't have a spare, can anyone lend you one. It wouldn't take more than a minute to confirm either way:)

I sound so stingy! I have a new system (unpacked) with a "D" on the tower but hoped to use the "G" system as a back up! How you must hate me

No, not at all, we are all here to try helping each other. The keyboard should be interchangeable, so give it a try and see what happens.

If it fixes the problem then you can go any buy a new keyboard, or if it's only for backup, just remember not to use the number keys at the top of the keyboard.:)

And by the way, that's not being stingy, it's being sensible!

Good luck, let us know what happens:D

Thanks for all the advice! Based on your opinions, I'll get another keyboard. I've enjoyed chatting with you all or as we say in the deep south "ya'll".

I may be off the mark here, but here goes anyway.....

Some time ago my keyboard did very strange things - i.e. typing weird stuff that did not correspond with the instructions to the keyboard.

It was a spyware problem.

Is it worth running your AS/AV protection/scan etc..... and see what happens??

Just a thought.....

Gabs xx

word has that annoying autocorrect, may be worth looking at that to check its not the problem
