Bill

I am getting, apparently randomly, a Cut process occuring
in XP. It gives, in light green lettering, the work "Cut"
near the bottom right corner of the screen. It does this
even when only XP and required programs seem to be running
(such as the mouse driver). When oterh programs are
running, it actually cuts whatever is highlighted, either
words or entire folders.
I anve not lost asnything important yet, but it is only a
matter of time.

What could be causing this and how do a stop it?

Thanks!
Bill

Hi, Bill.

Nobody else has reported anything like that. What do you have running in
the background? Click Start | All Programs | Startup to see what programs
are starting automatically. If you don't find anything suspicious there,
try Start | Run and type msconfig for a more complete listing of things that
are running, with or without your permission.

I now have a little more info... it appears to be the
function related to the "cut" botton on this enhanced
keyboard. If the button was actually sticking, it should
be doing contunuously, I whould think. Perhaps a software
glitch? Is there any way to shut off this feature?

I do not use the extra buttons, and would not miss them.

Hi, Bill.

Which "enhanced keyboard" - there must be dozens of them out there. Make
and model?

Do you have the latest correct drivers for that keyboard?

I worked fine from last december until about 3 weeks ago,
then this just started happening. I did have a system crash
a day or so before I noticed this. Perhaps the driver got
corrupted? Hmmmm.

I will have to check and see if there are newer drivers, I
suppose from them.

Hi, Bill.

If the driver is correct but corrupted, then the System File Checker may do
the job for you. At the Run prompt, type: sfc /scannow

SFC will compare each WinXP operating system file (including most drivers, I
think) with the "known good" copy held in your on-disk cache and replace any
missing or damaged ones. Have your original system CD-ROM handy; SFC might
want to see that.

It's worth a shot. Let us know if it works - or doesn't.

SFC did not find anything... but I uninstalled the keyboard
and then restarted the machine. XT installed a driver and
it seems to be working fine now.

New one to pass around the gang there, eh? It was actually
cutting things... bookmarks, file folders, etc. I am glad
it didn't hit anything important (actually, it did, but I
had that backed up)

Thank you for your assistance.
