Hi,

My son has a Mesh Athlon 64 3200+ 512 RAM Windows XP Home. He recently managed to get infceted with a vrius which we have now removed. I have reformatted the HD and re-installed XP twice, been to Windows update and got all updates am running Grisoft free AVg, have reinstalled the latest ATI drivers for his Radeon 9550 card but still we are having random lock ups - 'no signal' message on the monitor. I have swapped the graphics cad with an identical machine purchased at the same time but still we get crashes.

Help please!

I have looked inthe event viewer but there are no warnings at all despite the crashes.
Thanks for your time
Graham

Hi Graham! And welcome:thumb:

When you say lock-up what exactly do you mean? Is it only when you use a particular program? or random.

I mean it stops responding, screen goes blank, monitor gives blank and gives no signal message. It has been happening more or less from startup also refusing to restart on the restart button and requiring a mains off.It seem to be random but also a recent game called Heroes of the Pacific causes it to crash every time but this program runs quite happily on an Athlon XP 2800+ machine with 512 and a Winfast A660GT graphics card.

Thanks.

does it crash when you open the game or after a while ?

if its after a while then its probably your graphics card is getting too hot and crashing the system, take the side off you case and try aiming a desk fan at it to see if that helps

That is more than likely a PSU problem ... ie; overheating or failing.

Is this the PC ?

Can you open the case and read what the lable says on the PSU?

:)

That seem to be a very similar PC - but about half what I paid in January 2005! The case is different and also we have a Radeon 9550 graphics card.

I attach a snap of the PSU.

Thanks for your help.

sounds like one of your monitor cables are loose, check the cables are plugged in properly. You might have to switch around the cables at the back to see if any other configurations work
worth a shot :)
