Random connection problems

When i'm online or sending data from my desktop to my
laptop i get random connection problems over my LAN. A
balloon apears from time to time saying it is disconnected
and it reconneects 2 to 5 secondss later.

I'm sure this is a software issue since i've just got a
new NIC car. It's been doing this since i've reinstalled
Windows XP. It was fine before.

I got the Blaster worm patch too.

I am having the EXACT same problem with my XP machine. I've rewired
the network jack, new cables, new drivers for the card and a new
firmware for my Nexland Router.

I've actually switched from Wireless to Wired because of a similar
problem with wireless networking cutting out.

Any suggestions? This appears to be XP related, as all other
computers I have work on this and all other network jacks.
