Does RAMbus license their technology or get royalties for it? Does RAMbus
make/fab any of it's own technologies?

They get income both ways - they licensed with AMD, have a deal with IBM
and a long standing deal with Intel, both of which are for "undisclosed"
amounts... and for the memory mfrs they want a %age royalty per chip...
1.5% comes to mind but I could be way off there.

I dunno how it works with their foundry deals but they have deals with TSMC
& UMC to offer their PHY cells to the foundries' customers as part of their
work for them. Whether the foundries pass a royalty charge thru to the
customer, which shows on the bill per chip, or just include it as a part of
the overall bill is probably difficult to find out. Of course their
competitores in the PHY cell business, like Xilinx, probably have similar
deals with the foundries.

I've no idea what kind of fab facility Rambus might have - they might have
a small in-house pilot fab, or they might work with some of the companies
which specialize in pilot fab work.... interesting questions with answers
which are hard to get.:-)
