I have 256 mb of RAM and when I checked, the physical
memory reads: 256, but available physical memory is 74
mb. I uninstalled Corel WP Office 2002 because the
available memory read 124 mb, now, since dumping that
program, I have only 74. Why did it go down after dumping
a program that uses a lot of RAM?

Whether a program is "installed", e.g. physically on the computer and
and "registered" in the registry, icons available, etc. ...has nothing
to do with memory.

Windows XP works very hard to use all available memory. It is a
resource, which will try to use all memory. Available memory will change
constantly and automatically. It is not something you should really
worry about.

If you wish to spend time/resources on this issue, you will be better
off doing some research to find out how to select, buy, and install
additional memory on your machine. If you upgrade to 384 or double it
to 512, you will find Windows XP so much better and much more highly
performant. You'll find again, that XP will work hard for you to ensure
that all that available memory is used.
