i have a pavillion 404 2.0 ghz pc with 256 ddr-sdram it
is intel celeron how much further can i expand the ram to
get it to full capacity ?

Have you had a look in the manual for the motherboard? It should tell you in there what is the maximum amount of RAM that can be installed.

Another thing... most motherboards can support 2 or 3
gigs of RAM. Unless you're doing extensive CAD work or
video editing (which you shouldn't use a Celeron for in
any case), you shouldn't need more than 512 MB or 1 gig.

Depends on your motherboard, but seeing as your spec is fairly up-to-date,
your motherboard will most likely support up to 2GB, by way of 2 x 1GB
DIMMs. You should check your motherboard manual for this information. If
it's not available, simply download and run a program such as PC Wizard,
which will identify your motherboard as well as the maximum amount you can
use. You can get PC Wizard at www.download.com
