Hi i just installed a 512MB DDR ram to my notebook, but im not sure if it is
workin properly, can anyone show me howto update my ram status, or just check
if it is installed correctly

The amount of physical RAM is displayed by the System control panel. Open it
by from Control Panel, or by right-clicking "My Computer" and selecting
Properties, or by holding down the Windows key and pressing the Pause key on
the keypad.

If you'd like to test the RAM, one tool is the Windows Memory Diagnostic:

http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

(It's somewhat misleadingly named, as it doesn't run within Windows.)

Address scrambled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

Hi, I found out what my physical ram is now, it is 512mb, but with the new
ram i put in it should give me 1.0ghz. was there a problem with the
installation?

It looks like you have a problem.

Is the full amount of RAM recognized by the BIOS? (I'd guess not.)

I'm not familar with notebook memory (usually SODIMMs, I believe), so I'm
not able to discuss compatibility issues. You might go to www.crucial.com
and check the RAM that is listed for your notebook. Is it the same sort as
you just installed?

No, it should give you 1 giga/byte/ - a giga/hertz/ is a measure of
frequency, not capacity.

In Ian <Ian@discussions.microsoft.com> had this to say:

My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:

Don't be alarmed. You'd be amazed at how often that happens.
