I purchased "512MB SDRAM PC-133, 168-pin 8ns" for my
emachine with Windows XP. It does not work with this
RAM. When I boot, it beeps but does not come up on the
screen. How do I determine if the ram is defective, or if
this ram is not compatable with Windows XP?
Thanks
Carolyn

Every type of RAM is compatible with XP.

The only compatibility issue with this RAM is your motherboard!

Greetings --

The OS is immaterial, other than the fact that WinXP is more
sensitive to low-quality or defective RAM than is Win9x.

It's absolutely essential that any new RAM module(s) be fully
compatible with both the motherboard and/or any other RAM module(s)
already in the system. Additionally, there are sometimes jumper
switches on older motherboards that need to be reset for new RAM
configurations. Consult your motherboard's manual or the
manufacturer's web site for specific instructions and compatibility
requirements.
