Does anyone know how muck RAM memory is supported by
WINXP before it becomes unstable.WIN(* would only support
256MB.

4 GB

Your motherboard probably doesn't support that much, most
top out at 2 or 3 GB...

The reason I asked the question is that when I changed my
motherboard over a year ago I tried to use two 512MB DDR
memory DIMMs, and could not get my video card drivers to
load. So I e-mailed the Mfg. and they told me WIN98 did
not support that much memory. They said I might try
512MB, but that I may need to use only 256MB. I tried
512MB, but it was unstable so I put in 256MB and
everything worked fine. Also my motherboard can handle
over 2GB of memory

Your original problem with Windows 98 could have been fixed in 30
seconds or less by simply adding the following entry to the [vcache]
section of the system.ini file:
MaxFileCache=512000
