I need to upgrade, who doesnt, my ram. I have pc3200 ddr 400mhz ram
installed now, 512k. I want to add 2 more gigs. Question is what is
the diferences in types, other than the obvious cost?

PC3200 (400MHz) DDR 184-pin ECC Memory

PC3200 (400MHz) DDR 184-pin ECC Registered Memory

PC3200 (400MHz) DDR 184-pin non-ECC Memory

PC3200 (400MHz) DDR 200-pin SO DIMMs Memory

Also, any recommendations for good online vendors with good pricing?

You need to tell us what motherboard you have so we can advise you properly.

SODIMM is for laptops
ECC is for servers and very stable/reliable PCs
non-ECC is probably what you need, but tell us what motherboard you have
(make and model) before you buy so we can advise you properly - you might
not be able to 'add' 2GB of RAM to your board! You might have to throw away
what you have or settle for 1.5GB.

184 pin non-ECC are the type listed on Crucial.

non-ECC is a 64 bit wide DIMM. ECC is a 72 bit wide DIMM. ECC
allows a checksum to be computed, over the 64 bit word. With a
SECDED Hamming code, you can correct a single error or detect
a double bit error, in a 64 bit DIMM memory word. When a DIMM is
non-ECC, there is no error check, and you are relying on the
good qualities of the memory.
